Bourquin stops Blodgett in Fontana Pro Gas Final By Bob Johnson Jed Bourquin denied Mike Blodgett Sr. his second straight SoCal Pro Gas Assoc., victory when he defeated the Bakersfield race winner in the final round California Dragway. Eighty cars entered the event, with Paul Wiechmann taking the number one qualifying honor for the Russ Harris Memorial Race, sponsored by Harris Family Motorsports. Wiechmann had a big weekend at Fontana, as he went to the quarterfinals of the Pro Gas race, and then went on to win the SoCal Super Street series race the next day. Bourquin, who finished second in the NHRA-Lucas divisional series last year, drove his ’93 Dodge Daytona to the final by defeating Carl Jennings in round 5, he got a bye in the 6th round, and then defeated Larry Scarth in the semifinal. Blodgett drove his ’27 Ford to the final with wins over Al Aguiar in round 5, he beat Val Torres in the quarterfinals, and got a bye into the final. In the final round, Jed ran a 9.927, 145.44 with a .051 reaction time to Blodgett’s runner-up effort of 9.937, 144.52 with a .050 r.t. |
