Ray's Notes We had 71 cars enter our 1st race of the year at Fontana sponsored by Paul Weisner of Eagle Rods & Crankshafts. Congratulations to Phil Miller for his 1st SCPG win. The trophy sponsor for the race was Glen & Maureen Smith of Smith MotorSports LLC. Phil did a great job climbing up through the pack from 67th place. Congratulations to the whole Miller family, Claudia, Dennis, Jeff and Carissa. A class act racing family!! Also congratulations to Alan Hoefer for his runner-up finish. Alan finished 10th last year and is off to a great start this year. Congrats go out to Randy Balough who was our #1 Qualifier with a 9.900. He won the #1Qualifier plaque from Joe Roubicek and $100.00 from Jim Sowards. Paul Wiechmann also ran a 9.900 and received the “You Just Missed It” award and $25.00 from Paul & Jack Giacalone of Pizazz Racing. Our #5 Qualifier was Randy Fabbro who got $30.00 from Ken “Racer” Brown Transmission and Repair. Our 26th qualifier Rich Okerman got a T-Shirt from Randy Lazarus of Laz Racing. Our new Bulls-Eye award sponsor for the year is Dave Calvert of CP Pistons. Congrats to Greg Phillipson for collecting the $100.00. Remember to be eligible for this or any other of our contingency prizes you must have the decals on your car. Our other contingency sponsors are K&N Filters, CL Bryant, Mike’s Transmission and Hughes Performance. It seemed like everything that could go wrong did so on Saturday at Fontana, but thanks to the hard work of Dave Danish and his crew all went well on Sunday. Seeing how this is a new track surface we know it will only get better in time. Thanks to the SCPG women, Robin, Kari, Kitty and Donna Daniel for all their help at this race. Also, thanks to Dave Fargo for doing the points again this year. Don’t forget our free trip to Maui for two sponsored by the Les & Jeanette Harris and Kids. We had quite a few of our racers in the final rounds at the Winternationals in Pomona. And we would like to congratulate the winner, Steve Parsons and the runner-up, Mike Bolden. Great job!!! When I took over the Presidency of SCPG I said I would do it for three years, so at the end of this season I will be stepping down to make room for someone else and maybe some fresh ideas. It has been a great experience and I look forward to helping the new President get started next year. Our next race is March 19th at LACR, hope to see you all there. Race Safe, P.S. We are still in need of race sponsors for 2005. If you know of anyone who can help out please let me or any board member know. |
