Ray's Notes

We had 66 cars enter our 4th race of the year sponsored by Perma-Coil & Team Smooth. Bob Duncan with Perma-Coil and Joe Roubicek with Team Smooth have been sponsores for many years now and we really appreciate what they do for us. So next time you see them be sure to say “Thank You”. The trophy sponsor was Mike & Robin Boner and the #1 qualifier and runner-up plaques (all year) are by Joe Roubicek.

Congratulations to Paul Wiechmann for winning the race and to his good buddy Rich Okerman for his runner-up finish. They both were dailed all day long. Paul even ran two perfect 9.900 during eliminations. Paul was also our # 1 qualifier and received $100.00 from Carl & Judy Jennings of RVPO RV Parts Outlet and a $25.00 certificate from CL Bryant. Randy Kersey was our # 2 qualifier and received $25.00 and the “You Just Missed It “ award from Paul and Jack Giacalone of Pizazz Racing. Jim Israel was our #5 qualifier and received $30.00 from Ken “Racer” Brown of Brown’s Transmission and Repair. The $100.00 Bull’s-Eye Award, sponsored by Dave Calvert of CP Pistons, was won by CW Hoefer for beating our points leader Doug Spencer. Our “Turtle Award of $25.00, Sponsored by Jim Sowards, was won by Glen Smith with a .509 winning lite in the 1st round.

Ron and Don Freedle both brought their cars out to race with us again after taking 3 years off and unfortunately Ron blew his motor at the finish line, on his third qualifying pass, and rolled the car 3 or 4 times. The car was completely destroyed but I’m happy to report that Ron said he is fine except for a little bit of a sore neck. He’s gone to the doctor and had x-rays and the doctor said everything looks good and that the soreness should go away. He would like to thank Randy Balough, Tim & Donna Daniel and everyone else that helped with his car after the crash. He said he’s looking for another car so he can continue racing, if anyone knows of any for sell give him a call. I raced Ron the run before he crashed and for only being his 2nd pass in three years he had a .014 lite and ran a 9.906. Amazing!

We had two more of our racers involved in crashes at the Divisional race at Bakersfield. Bob Dillard was in the right lane and his opponent came across from the left lane and hit the left front side of his car pushing him into the guardrail. Bob was fine but he said the car is not repairable. Bob would like to thank everyone for all their caring words and support. He also said he’s not ready to give up racing and he will be back when he builds or buys another car. Bob had racing insurance that covered the car while he was racing. He wanted to let everyone know that for $800.00 a year he had $40,000.00 coverage. For anyone interested go to http://www.aounderwriters.com.

Ronnie Lahn also crashed his beautiful corvette shortly after they resumed racing from Bob’s crash. Ronnie got loose in the right lane about 3/4 track and came across and hit the left guardrail. I’m happy to report that Ronnie was not injured and the car is already being repaired. It’s too bad they didn’t stop racing and do something about the track before he crashed as cars were having to lift in both lanes.

Don’t forget to thank and support are sponsors, K&N Filters, Mike’s Transmission, Hughes Performance, CL Bryant and all the other sponsors that help us throughout the year.

Race Safe,
