Ray's Notes We had 79 cars enter our “Russ Harris Memorial Race” at Fontana. This was a great car count for a race in honor of a very special guy and someone who was a stout supporter of SCPG. Thanks very much to Cheryl, Jeanette and Les Harris and the Harris Kids for sponsoring this special race again this year. Also thanks to Carl & Judy Jennings of RVPO (RV Parts Outlet) for being the trophy sponsor for this race. Also thanks to Joe Roubicek for sponsoring the #1 qualifier and runner-up plaques all year. Congratulations to Pete Kinney for winning his 1st SCPG race and for taking over the points lead with only two races remaining. Pete was having a great weekend and even went 4 rounds the next day in SCS\St. Gary Cooke beat Randy Fabbro in a close semi final race but was unable to return for the final round and had to settle for 2nd place. Congratulations to Gary and Randy too. Congratulations to Phil Miller for qualifying #1 and receiving $100.00 from Tim and Donna Daniel. Randy Kersey qualified #2 and received $25.00 and the “You Just Missed It” award from PJ and Jack Giacalone of Pizazz Racing. Pete Kinney qualified #5 and received $30.00 from Ken “Racer” Brown of Brown’s Transmission and repair. The Bulls-Eye award sponsored by Dave Calvert of CP Pistons will go to Randy Balough for defeating our point’s leader Wayne Newman in round 1. The turtle award of $25.00 sponsored by Jim Sowards will go to Jim Ketcher (Jim bought Carl Jennings race car)for winning his first round race with a .555 lite. Mike Blodgett Jr. won a Pit Pal oil rack from Jack Derensin for being our #54 qualifier. Jack is the new Pit Pal Rep. for this area so give him a call if you need anything. Congratulations also go out to Joe Roubicek for winning the Seattle National event (Joe also won Top Comp at Fontana on Saturday and was runner-you on Sunday and is running away with the points lead) and to Steve Williams for his runner-up finish against Joe in the finals at Seattle. Steve is currently #3 in the Nation and we are all hoping to see him #1 at the end of the year. Jim Sowards, our very own Master of Ceremony, won the Sonoma National and Jed Bourquin was runner-up. Val Torres Jr. was also runner-up at Woodburn. Congratulations to all these great SCPG racers. I would like to thank Robin Boner for helping with registration and Kitty and Kari for all they do at our races and also thanks to Dave Fargo for taking care of the points. I hate to sound like a broken record but this really is going to be my last year as president of SCPG. I am not sure I will be able to make all the races next year so we really need someone else to take over. I will be happy to help the new president get started and work with him or her all year if they would like. It’s a great organization with great guys and gals and I would really like to see it continue on. Our next race will be sponsored by Wayne Newman of Wayne & Dave’s Automotive and J Wayne Silvia of S & Z Racing on September 11th at LACR. Hope to see you all there. Race Safe, |
