BERESFORD defeats BONER in weather delayed Race #2. By Bob Johnson Dan Beresford, the 2005 Southern California Super Street Assoc., series champion won his first race of the year when he defeated Mike Boner in the Southern California Pro Gas Assoc., final round at L.A. County Raceway. Beresford’s last Pro Gas win came in 2003. Wayne Newman earned a bonus $100 from Jim Sowards Racing for qualifying number one with his Wayne & Dave’s Automotive Chevy Lumina as he ran right on the 10.20 index. Also qualifying with a 10.200 was Rick Webb, Jeff Agalsoff ran a 10.201, and Ryan Herem and Gary Mignacca both qualified with 10.204 time. A total of eleven drivers qualified on the index. Beresford “Rogue Mouse” Chevy Vega opened eliminations of the Team Smooth/Perma-Coil Racing-sponsored event by defeating Bill Lockhart, he beat Bill Ohmer in round two and Chris Newman in the third round. Beresford got a bye in round four, in the quarterfinals he beat Phil Miller and in the semi he defeated Dave Zewe. Boner got a bye in the semi, and defeated series points leader Jim Israel in the quarterfinals. Beresford defeated Mike Boner’s Ford Thunderbird in the final round, 10.229, 131.00 (.030 r.t.) to a losing 10.270, 144.00 (.021 r.t.). The 2006 SoCal Pro Gas series continues on June 3 at the new Auto Club Dragway at California Speedway. |
